On October 6, 2020, the Government of Alberta released a new plan to build and diversify Alberta’s natural gas sector. The Natural Gas Vision and Strategy is a significant part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan and outlines government actions to support the sector and develop opportunities for petrochemical manufacturing, hydrogen production, liquefied natural gas (LNG), industrial demand, and plastics recycling. The plan’s objective is to generate wealth and jobs for the province by promoting the expansion and innovation of a low-cost, low-carbon natural gas value chain. The strategy was developed with participation by petrochemical industry, gas sector, academia, municipalities and Indigenous representatives.
Five key growth areas
The Government of Alberta’s vision is to revive the natural gas sector and advocate for Alberta as the preferred source of clean, secure and responsibly sourced natural gas in supplying Canadian and international demand. The strategy highlights five areas that hold significant potential for wealth generation, investment attraction, and growth.
